As each province hosts their Olympic Games day, events will showcase local entertainers and artists to an international audience. Doc Walker, natives of Portage La Prairie, Man., will perform at Olympic Torch Runs on January 5 and 7 in Winnipeg and Portage La Prairie. They will also perform on February 25 at Manitoba Day at B.C. Place. Doc Walker then head to Surrey, B.C. on February 26 to play at the 2010 Celebration Site, a 13-day festival at Holland Park.
From Hare Bay, N.L., Tara Oram will perform at B.C. Place on February 26 as part of Newfoundland and Labrador Day. Tara also plays Vancouver on February 25 and 27 at LiveCity Vancouver and The Granville Island Stage, respectively. LiveCity Vancouver includes two celebration sites in downtown Vancouver at David Lam Square and Georgia Street. Prior to the games, Tara will also perform at the Olympic Torch Relay in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont..
Award-winning Albertan singer songwriter, Corb Lund, will take a break from touring Canada and the U.S. to take part in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic celebrations. Lund plays LiveCity Vancouver on February 17, the Surrey 2010 Celebration site on February 18 and Whistler Live! at the Whistler Village Square on February 19. Corb Lund recently released his sixth and critically acclaimed album Losin’ Lately Gambler (New West Records/Universal Music Canada). A third generation Alberta rancher, Lund has been singing about his rural upbringing for more than a decade. He is the Canadian Country Music Associations Roots Artist of the Year for the sixth consecutive year.
Chris Thorsteinson, Murray Pulver and Dave Wasyliw (Doc Walker) are Manitoba natives whose last album, Beautiful Life, produced three top-10 country radio singles and hit No. 3 on the Canadian Country Sales Chart. Doc Walker won six Canadian Country Music Association Awards in 2008 and won the 2009 JUNO Award for Country Recording of the Year. Their latest release, GO, has produced two top-10 singles, with “If I Fall” still climbing the Canadian country chart. Doc Walker also extended their highly successful “Speed of Life Tour” into 2010, adding a number of East coast concert dates for February.
Tara Oram stepped into the spotlight when she placed sixth on CTV’s Canadian Idol. From Idol, Tara caught the eye of award winning talent manager, Ron Kitchener, and signed to Open Road Recordings. Since releasing her debut, Chasing The Sun, in 2008, Tara has racked up a number of awards including a 2009 JUNO nomination, an ECMA for Country Recording of the Year and the 2009 CCMA Rising Star Award.
