“It’s weird how there are sponsors and there are partners,” Chesney says of the collaboration. “And for me, Corona is the way I live my life… It’s a part of hanging out, kicking back, chilling with my friends – so anything we ever do together just feels like another day, not some kind of work!”
This year’s ad – again shot by noted director Phil Jouron, who teamed with U2 for their “Rattle & Hum” – was shot in Tulum, Mexico and features Chesney’s anthemic – and highly appropriate “Beer In Mexico.” For Corona, Chesney marks the first time the beer company has had a person in their spots.
“We had a great time on this shoot,” Chesney allows. “We did it at night… and Tulum is just beautiful. And it really does, like I said, feel like a page out of my life: it’s me by myself playing my guitar. Just chilling, having what I think is a quiet night – and then, for the people who’re watching the ACM Awards, you’ll see what happens.”
Written at Sammy Hagar’s pool in Cabo San Lucas, “Beer In Mexico” was a multiple week #1 for the man who puts out Greatest Hits II on May 19. All about celebrating the freewheeling life and not having to sort out one’s life in a single day, the song more than embodies Chesney’s approach to life, love and a whole lot of fun.
Waist deep in rehearsals for his Sun City Carnival Tour, the man who just hit #1 with “Down The Road,” an acoustic duet with the song’s writer Mac McAnally is fired up for another year of taking summer to the fans! With an even bigger stage show, higher-definition video screens and a few tricks up his sleeve, the Luttrell, Tennessean – who is nominated for Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year – is ready to hit 2009 hard and just keep going.
“I’ve been given so many blessings,” maintains the man who’s already sold out Boston’s Gillette Stadium, as well as the NFL Stadiums in Philadelphia and Detroit. “Just going to rehearsals and hearing the band firing up… seeing the production stuff for this year… knowing that the fans are just as psyched for us to get out there as we are to hit the road… well, that’s an awesome feeling. Then you start looking around, realize that Corona’s gonna debut a commercial I’m in on the ACM Awards… I couldn’t have made that up when I was kid if I tried."
